The adventures of a lawyer who returned to law school for a third degree at age 72.
Kansas City, MO (PRWEB) May 09, 2017
Bruce R. Hopkins, author of more than 30 books that have documented and chronicled the practice of nonprofit law for nearly 50 years, has written a memoir that has just been released. “SJD – What’s the Point of Three (Law Degrees)?” shares the adventures of an older lawyer who returned to law school for the third degree. Hopkins was past the age of 70 when he decided to return to the University of Kansas School of Law to complete this third degree, the SJD (Doctor of Juridical Science), and pursue his lifelong goal.
In this very personal account, Hopkins opens the book with a brief analysis of the SJD degree, and his angst in deciding to obtain one – requiring a return to law school at age 72. Once enrolled, Hopkins takes the reader to class with him, meeting fellow students (decades younger) and law professors (also younger and his colleagues, as Hopkins teaches a course at KU Law School). Readers journey along as Hopkins studies tax, banking and constitutional law, takes law examinations again, and trudges through his dissertation process. Readers learn how Hopkins finds his law practice reinvigorated and his life changed as he gained the satisfaction of achieving this lifetime dream. Hopkins wrote this book with hope that his story will inspire others to pursue their own dreams. This book shares his journey that few would choose to pursue at his advanced age.
This newest book departs from the 30-plus scholarly books and monthly newsletter focused on nonprofit law (published by Wiley) that Hopkins has written for more than 40 years. “SJD – What’s the Point of Three (Law Degrees)?” is available through Amazon and Barnes and Noble, the ISBN Number is 9781535603270.
