New small business lending platform funds first loan to fashion designer creating 75 new jobs in the Los Angeles area.

"The Manhattan West Community Investment Fund will draw a clear line between its investments and job creation – exactly the kind of vehicle our funders and investors are seeking." Roberto Barragan, Senior Managing Director, Manhattan West Asset Management

Manhattan West Asset Management’s new small business lending platform, the Manhattan West Community Investment Fund (MWCIF), announced its first loan closing today with Joyce Azria, for her new fashion line, Avec les Filles. The support of MWCIF helped the millennial-targeted fashion and accessories label officially launch both online and in Macy’s stores.

"We are excited about our first investment and very proud to support Joyce Azria, her new company and the creation of more than 75 new jobs in LA County,” said Roberto Barragan, Senior Managing Director of the Fund. "The Manhattan West Community Investment Fund will draw a clear line between its investments and job creation – exactly the kind of vehicle our funders and investors are seeking."

The Manhattan West Community Investment Fund was established by Roberto Barragan and Lorenzo Esparza in 2016 to serve as a socially responsible lending platform that seeks to provide access to capital for businesses that create jobs and opportunities for low to moderate income communities. The MWCIF is currently seeking to grow their minority focused lending platform through financial institutions seeking to fulfill their CRA obligations. Manhattan West Asset Management is a Latino owned financial services firm, one of the few in the country, providing full service investment management for private clients and institutions.

“I’m grateful to the Manhattan West Community Investment Fund and its partners, Roberto Barragan and Lorenzo Esparza, for their financial support and for selecting Avec les Filles in the opening round to launch their new lending platform,” said Azria. “With this financing, Avec les Filles will continue to scale with an online presence and 155 shops within Macy’s.”
