StraighterLine, the fastest-growing provider of alternative academic credit, has partnered with Tennessee State University to offer students a convenient and affordable online option to earn credit towards their college degree.
Founded in 1912, Tennessee State University (TSU) is a comprehensive, urban, land-grant institution located in Nashville, Tennessee. TSU is dedicated to helping students develop the skills needed for the real world. Through the school’s partnership with StraighterLine, TSU now offers students even more flexible options to earn a bachelor’s degree and prepare for the knowledge-based jobs of tomorrow.
Of the new partnership, StraighterLine founder and CEO Burck Smith says, “By partnering with StraighterLine, Tennessee State University is helping students achieve their professional, academic and career goals. Tennessee State University’s commitment to excellence, professional preparedness, and college affordability is well-aligned with StraighterLine's mission of providing high-quality online college courses at an affordable price."
“Tennessee State University is excited to partner with StraighterLine to expand our online options for students who want to take advantage of convenient self-paced courses. With StraighterLine, our students are able to fulfill prerequisites and general education requirements, build skills and accelerate their path to graduation,” said Dr. Evelyn Nettles, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs at TSU.
All StraighterLine credit-bearing courses are approved by ACE Credit (American Council on Education), and the U.S. Department of Education selected StraighterLine as an EQUIP partner–a strong reflection of their evaluation of StraighterLine curriculum.
Students can now use the course-to-course equivalency guide between Tennessee State University and StraighterLine to determine exactly which StraighterLine courses are guaranteed to transfer into the Tennessee State University degree programs.
With more than 9,000 students, Tennessee State University is Nashville’s only public university, and is a comprehensive, urban, co-educational, land-grant university offering 38 undergraduate, 25 graduate and seven doctoral programs. TSU has earned a top 20 ranking for Historically Black Colleges and Universities according to U.S. News and World Report, and rated as one of the top universities in the country by Washington Monthly for social mobility, research and community service.
