Prominent Spirits Competition Recognizes Birmingham Startup

The New York International Spirits Competition, widely considered the pre-eminent event for blind-tasting and judging of distilled spirits, has announced Redmont Distilling Company as Alabama’s Distillery of the Year. In addition to this accolade, Redmont’s eligible spirits won Bronze awards in the Vodka and Gin categories.

“We are thrilled to hold the title of Alabama Distillery of the Year for 2017. The New York International Spirits Competition is one of the most rigorous competitions worldwide and this honor is truly appreciated” said Redmont co-founder Stephen Watts. “This award is the result of years of hard work and dedication by the Redmont team. We will continue expanding and improving our brand and product portfolio, and strive to maintain the title in 2018.”

Redmont’s two spirits that were entered in the competition, Alabama Cotton Gin and Satsuma Vodka, placed bronze in their respective categories. Alabama Cotton Gin is considered the first gin in the world to use cotton as a botanical and since its launch in June 2016 has become the highest selling Alabama-distilled gin in the state (Source: National Alcohol Beverage Control Association). Satsuma Vodka is a truly unique spirit, naturally flavored by vapor-infusing Redmont Vodka with Alabama-grown Satsuma orange peels.

In addition to the awards won at the New York International Spirits Competition, in late 2016 Redmont’s original vodka won the Silver medal at the Washington Cup Spirits Competition.
