Shareholder William H. Gorrod of global law firm Greenberg Traurig, LLP will be speaking at Council On State Taxation’s (COST) 48th Annual Meeting, Oct. 22-25. The 3-day program discusses various types of state and local taxes that business taxpayers face, as well as audit sessions, state chamber of commerce roundtables, and many other related topics.
Gorrod will be speaking on the panel, “Handling Tax Issues in a Non-Tax Forum or Private Parties Pursuing Tax Claims.” The discussion will review what SALT practitioners must know when state and local tax issues are raised under the False Claims Act and class action complaints.
Gorrod is a shareholder in the firm’s San Francisco and New York offices. He focuses his practice on state and local tax issues, and advises clients on controversy, planning, and compliance matters on a multistate basis. His emphasis is on state and local income and franchise taxes, bank taxes, gross receipts taxes, unincorporated business taxes, sales and use taxes, real estate transfer taxes, and payroll taxes.
About Greenberg Traurig's Tax Practice
To stay competitive in today's global marketplace, international companies must seek out greater efficiency in their tax planning and compliance, including coordinating tax decisions from country to country. For U.S. operations, an environment of increased scrutiny – including passage of more restrictive legislation and a spike in audit activity at every level – is quickly becoming the norm, likewise spurring a need for greater self-evaluation and for more frequent representation in controversies and litigation with tax authorities. Greenberg Traurig’s multidisciplinary tax team works closely with clients to address these and other tax planning needs, as well as tax controversies and litigation issues.
