Childhood obesity has been at alarmingly high levels for decades in the United States and if they remain consistent, 51% of the population will be considered obese by 2030.

Coming out of the holiday season and to prepare for the New Year, Mediaplanet announces the launch of this December’s edition of “Childhood Wellness.” This campaign will educate parents about the affordable and effective ways they can expose their children to healthy life choices in the New Year.

Childhood obesity has been at alarmingly high levels for decades in the United States and if they remain consistent, 51% of the population will be considered obese by 2030. Due to the high levels of obesity, our nation could see the first generation with a shorter life expectancy than their parents. The harsh reality is that this problem starts at home. A child’s life long dietary practices, level of physical activity and overall health condition are developed at a very young age. Parents need to take responsibility for the crucial role they play in instilling healthy choices in their children.

Between sitting, eating, watching TV, leisure time and being on the computer at home, the average American is sedentary 21 hours every day. Through FitDesk’s involvement with Childhood Wellness, and with their most recent release, FitStudent, the benefits of adding light exercise to everyone’s day makes a difference. Studies have shown higher rates of focus and information retention than before with exercise. Your metabolism and energy can benefit from activity throughout the day.

The print component of “Childhood Wellness” is distributed within today’s edition of USA Today in Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York, Seattle markets, with a circulation of approximately 250,000 copies and an estimated readership of 750,000. The digital component is distributed nationally, through a vast social media strategy, and across a network of top news sites and partner outlets.
