The annual ranking of accredited, not-for-profit colleges showcases online programs that provide students with a flexible pathway to advanced education and employment opportunities.

Two-year online learning programs are a great place for students to begin their academic journey because they provide quality academic experiences that most students can afford, while allowing complete control over their education schedule.

BestColleges.com, the leading provider of independent college rankings and higher education research and trend reports, announced today the release of their Best Online Community Colleges ranking for 2018. The updated ranking features accredited, not-for-profit two-year colleges who offer affordable, flexible, and quality online degree programs, and serves as a launching point for prospective students to find a school that fits their needs.

Of the thousands of accredited community colleges offering online degree programs nationwide, BestColleges.com recognized 50 schools on their Best Online Community Colleges list this year. “Two-year online learning programs are a great place for students to begin their academic journey because they provide quality academic experiences that most students can afford, while allowing complete control over their education schedule. Our list celebrates these colleges that have developed exceptional online academic programs that focus on student outcomes,” says Stephanie Snider, general manager at BestColleges.com.

A newcomer to the ranking, Southwest Mississippi Community College, came in as the top community college in the nation. Frontier Community College, Wabash Valley College, Irvine Valley College, and Carl Albert State College round out the top five.

The BestColleges.com ranking uses a methodology grounded in data compiled from the National Center for Education Statistics. It objectively assesses quality based on academic outcomes, affordability, and the breadth and depth of online learning opportunities. Eligible schools must be an accredited public or private not-for-profit institution and must offer at least one online associate degree program.

In addition to the ranking of top online schools, the BestColleges.com page also equips prospective students with information on accreditation, career considerations, and the costs and types of online two-year colleges available to them.
