Sioux Chief Manufacturing, a Kansas City, Missouri based American manufacturer and innovator of rough plumbing products, has filed suit against Zurn in federal court in the District of Delaware for alleged infringement of patent claims protecting its FinishLine™ series of adjustable drainage products.
“Sioux Chief’s strength, and what makes us a leader in our industry, is our ability to innovate and manufacture products that solve problems and bring value to the installation,” said Joe N. Ismert, President and Owner of Sioux Chief Manufacturing. “Years of R&D went into the creation of the FinishLine™ system, looking at the difficulties with floor drain installations to determine what features and benefits were needed to solve those problems. It’s important to defend our intellectual property when we believe a competing product infringes on what we worked so hard to invent. Our patents protect our investment in our inventions from imitators and importers. We take that protection and the defense of our patents seriously,” Ismert said.
Sioux Chief’s FinishLine™ system is a revolutionary design which allows for adjustment and correction of floor drains and cleanouts, after they have been poured in concrete. As a result of its innovations, Sioux Chief was awarded U.S. Patents 7,735,512 and 8,347,906. According to Case No. 1:18-cv-00163-RGA (D. Del.), Zurn violated certain patent claims when it introduced the EZ1™ system.
