BERKELEY, Calif. (PRWEB) February 13, 2018
Diversity Abroad and the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) announce a new partnership to enhance outreach and support mechanisms for diverse students in global education and cultural exchange programs. COE member institutions -- through the TRIO programs and other initiatives -- create pathways for low-income, first-generation students, and students with disabilities to access college and persist to graduation. Diversity Abroad -- and its partners -- are committed to ensuring the same student populations have equitable access to global educational programs that prepare them with the skills, knowledge, and experience to thrive in the 21st century global workforce. This partnership brings these powerful missions and respective stakeholders together to build upon each organization’s commitment to academic success for diverse communities. Given the documented connection between high-impact practices such as global education, and academic success, the collaboration between COE and Diversity Abroad will create new educational opportunities for diverse student communities.
“For over 35 years, COE has worked unceasingly to prepare low-income and first-generation students, as well as students with disabilities, for academic success. We look forward to this new partnership which will help ensure that the demographics of young Americans participating in and benefiting from global education and cultural exchange programs reflects the rich cultural diversity of the United States,” said Andrew Gordon, CEO & Founder of Diversity Abroad. “In our global knowledge economy all young people need access to the opportunities, like global education, that will prepare them to meet the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities that the 21st century presents.”
“COE is delighted to partner with Diversity Abroad, which is striving to ensure that students from diverse backgrounds have equal access to international experiences,” said COE President Maureen Hoyler. “We feel strongly that joining forces with Diversity Abroad and its broad network will provide college access and success professionals with valuable strategies and resources for the students we serve.“
Students and young people from diverse communities continue to be underrepresented in global education and cultural exchange programs. Diversity Abroad and the Council for Opportunity in Education have a shared vision for young people from diverse backgrounds to develop the competencies needed for success in today’s global marketplace. This partnership strengthens each organization’s capacity to actualize this vision.
