Lindberg/MPH Ships Gas-Fired Immersion Tube Lead Melting Furnace to Long-Term Customer

Lindberg/MPH announced the shipment of a nine (9) tube gas fired immersion tube lead melting and holding furnace to a supplier of the battery industry. This immersion tube furnace will be used in the production of lead plates for automotive batteries.

Lindberg/MPH announced the shipment of a nine (9) tube gas fired immersion tube lead melting and holding furnace to a supplier of the battery industry. This immersion tube furnace will be used in the production of lead plates for automotive batteries. This customer has ordered similar equipment from Lindberg/MPH in the past.

The maximum temperature rating for this immersion tube furnace is 900° F. The furnace has over 28,000 square inches of heat transfer area for efficient heating of the metal without super heating and the resulting metal losses. The immersion heat allows for efficient and economical melting and holding of the lead and precise temperature control of the customer’s casting process. A sow cradle protects the immersion tubes from possible damage from the charging of large and heavy lead hogs. A hog ramp automatically feeds lead hogs onto the sow cradle and gently slides the pigs into the bath. The automatic loading of the lead hogs provides the operator with ease of use for the loading process.

The furnace utilizes nine immersion tubes, each with its own burner and ratio regulator control. The molten lead capacity is equivalent to 121,000 pounds and the system is rated at 3,000,000 BTU/hr. The extended well at the front of the furnace was designed into the furnace specifically to provide the necessary space for the customer’s casting process equipment. Forced air cooling of the rear splash shield support and the front tube hold down structure eliminates heat distortion of the support structural.
