The Genetics Society of America now uses Figshare to archive supplemental material and data from papers published in its journals

The Genetics Society of America (GSA) today announced a new partnership with Figshare, a cloud-based repository for academic research.

Authors submitting to GENETICS and G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics will have their supplementary material - from datasets and graphics to 3D files and code - visualised in figshare.

Submissions will be made through a branded submission portal that includes guidance on the data policy and contact information for support.

Tracey Depellegrin, Executive Director of Genetics Society of America and Executive Editor of GENETICS and G3: Genes|Genomes|Genetics:

“When scientists publish a paper in GENETICS or G3, they help to catalyze scientific advances by sharing experimental reagents, results, and interpretations. For these articles to have the greatest impact, authors need to make unique research materials and data freely available to other investigators. In fact, since 2010, GSA journals have been committed to open data availability. Partnering with Figshare supports that commitment.

With Figshare, authors can upload any file type of any size. All supplemental material and data will now have a DOI that’s linked to the paper, and authors get to choose the type of open source license their data is published under – which gives them control over how their data is used. So authors have more flexibility and choice, which is important.”

Mark Hahnel, CEO and Founder of Figshare, said:

“We’re very excited to be working with Genetics Society of America to make it as easy as possible for authors to submit their supplementary data and get credit for all of their research.”

Supplemental material and data from papers published at GENETICS and G3 will now be available at https://gsajournals.figshare.com.
