Jack Hamilton and Elisabeth Seaman team up to present the principles of conflict resolution in their book, “Conflict – The Unexpected Gift: Making the most of disputes in life and work” (published by iUniverse). The authors are embarking on a marketing campaign to expand the book’s reach.

“Many people everywhere are angry or hurting because of unresolved issues in their lives, with family members, co-workers, neighbors, classmates or anyone else, that have led to clashes, alienation and even estrangement,” the authors explain. They add, “The first step in resolving conflicts is to understand what is going on in your mind and in the minds of the other parties to the conflicts. Our book will help them learn to take this and additional steps to resolve these issues and thereby repair, rebuild and very possibly improve the damaged relationships in their lives.”

Hamilton and Seaman say the lessons in their book are based on the structured communication principles that serve as the foundation of any mediation process. The book is intended to reach readers of all ages, with chapters offering concrete steps for forming improved communication skills, resolving conflict and building viable relationships with family, friends and co-workers.

Each chapter offers real-life scenarios to exemplify how the program’s teachings can apply to the reader. These accounts are followed by activities the readers can use to practice the skills they are learning. “Conflict – The Unexpected gift” is a hands-on, practical book.
