Robert Rogers’ new thriller, “The Christian Detective” (published by iUniverse), a murder-mystery set in a Southern California beach community combines love, suspense and action to put an attorney on a path to recovery.
Jake Carson was once a successful attorney. Now disbarred, he lives in a La Jolla, California, halfway house and drinks away his sorrows. When two of his former clients, Nate and Jen McGuire, are murdered, Jake decides to sober up. The guilt over his affair with Jen makes him want to investigate her death.
After Jake meets with and gets help from Brother Rasmussen, a preacher for the New Age Christian Mission, it seems the mission may be tied to the McGuire’s deaths. Following the death of a nun with African ties – the mission is active in the Central African Republic – it appears that the mission is involved in another murder. Investigating further, the case becomes all the more confusing and Jake discovers that no one is who he or she seems.
Rogers says his book “focuses on motivation to do the right thing regardless of how one feels. Doing the right thing gets someone off the tracks, back onto them. The book also highlights how money can corrupt and how big money can even introduce corruption into the sacred confines of religion.”
