Debra S. Carlisle Smith, a resident of North Muskegon, Michigan, who enjoys boat rides with her husband and dogs, playing the piano, reading books, and writing stories for children, has completed her new book “The Ballad of Uncle Morgan": an adventurous story on how the memorable tale of a floppy-eared hound dog named Uncle Morgan has helped in bringing back Zena to Jesse and Annie, two loving dog owners. Author Smith plans to donate a portion of her proceeds to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
Author Smith writes on the story of Annie and Jesse’s father and Uncle Morgan: “Suddenly, Jesse stopped. He had an idea. He remembered a story that Dad had told them many times. It was about Dad and his beloved floppy-eared hound dog, Uncle Morgan. Once, Dad and Uncle Morgan got lost in a forest on a hunting trip. Dad was very worried because it was getting dark. Then, Dad started thinking about Uncle Morgan’s special way of sending a message. Dad knew that Uncle Morgan was a baying hound dog. That meant he loved howling—long, dramatic, and, sometimes, very humorous howls. Dad was able to get Uncle Morgan to howl; that magical musical howl. It was so loud it echoed halfway through the Manistee National Forest! Uncle Morgan howled until help came. Dad was so happy Uncle Morgan had saved the day!”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Debra S. Carlisle Smith’s new book is an exciting story about how Zena, a fearless and high-spirited miniature pinscher, has found her way back to Jesse and Annie after Joey is instructed to howl upon remembering Uncle Morgan’s loud howling.
