24Hr Home Care knows the challenges all people face as they deal with their health. Hoping to give men a chance to talk about the wellness issues they face and raise money for prostate and testicular cancer research, 24Hr Home Care has become a partner in the Movember campaign.
24Hr Home Care, which provides a variety of non-medical home care services to assist those who face obstacles to living in their own homes, understands that men can often feel uncomfortable talking about their health. Perhaps they are too embarrassed to ask questions or feel uncomfortable asking for help. 24Hr Home Care knows that without discussion, disease symptoms and risk factors can go unacknowledged and lives can be lost. “As caregivers, we reach out to the community and improve the lives of our clients every day,” said a 24Hr Home Care representative. “Participating in Movember is a natural extension of that helping role.”
At the beginning of November, participants in Movember begin with a clean-shaven face. For the rest of the month, the participant grows his mustache and raises funds by seeking sponsors for his efforts. Not to be left out, women can help out too by donning fake mustaches and gathering sponsors. At the end of the month, participants celebrate with mustache shaving parties and fundraising roundups. In 2011, men and women around the world joined the Movember campaign and raised $126.3 million.
Throughout the month, most 24Hr Home Care employees will be growing mustaches to support the Movember campaign. As living billboards, their efforts will spur conversation about men’s health issues and the disease risks men face. Movember estimates that 79 percent of previous participants discussed their health with friends, family and colleagues while 70 percent talked about specific men’s health issues. At campaign’s end, 24Hr Home Care will match all donations made to the house team, Team 24. “Being a part of Movember gives us a fun way to approach very serious issues and raise money for good causes,” said a 24Hr Home Care representative. “We are proud to do our part for men’s health.”
