Twenty-seven years ago, an AutoCAD draftsman at an environmental consulting firm asked Marc Gleason if his graphics software could be used to produce soil-boring logs. This draftsman had been spending about 4 hours drawing each log. Marc Gleason worked on it a bit and the result was QuickLog. The time was cut from 4 hours to 20 minutes, and the task could now be shifted to geologists and data-entry staff. Soon, M-Tech Software was founded, and its products included QuickLog borehole logging software and well logging software, QuickCross/Fence for cross sections and 3-D fence diagrams. QuickGIS for importing boring log data into other GIS modeling software, and QuickSoil soil boring software for producing specialized soil contamination diagrams. Since then, M-Tech products have been constantly upgraded according to user demand. The newest version of QuickLog, which is available now, is designed for field data entry on a tablet PC such as the ruggedized Yuma or a regular iPad or Android. This version allows the geologist to quickly enter data by clicking user-defined geological words and phrases, eliminating the later step of transcribing field notes into a computer. Finding new ways to save time for its customers is always a goal of M-Tech’s.
Another recent innovation is M-Tech’s on-demand payment option. Firms can install the software on as many computers as they wish and have as many users as they wish. They pay by the hour or the amount of boring logs they produce. This system allows customers to charge usage directly to projects. It also allows for very flexible usage – one month they may have twenty users, another month just one – they avoid overbuying software for the seats that they need.
For decades, M-Tech’s products have been known for their ease of use and reliability. Just ask some of M-Tech’s customers: Shawn Roberts of Padre Associates: "I have found QuickLog to be well laid out, easy to learn, and in stark contrast to its competitor Gint, very user friendly."
Jack Murosko of ENSR: "Our committee analyzed the major boring log programs and chose QuickLog - QuickCross because of its ease of use and the high quality logs and cross sections that it could produce." Dale Woodall of Hazclean: "I am calling just to tell you how awesome QuickLog is - no other message! I will do an endorsement if needed."
