New A Forever Recovery Blog Post Reminds People that Drug Abuse Doesn’t Discriminate
Battle Creek, MI (PRWEB) August 20, 2014 -- In its latest blog post, A Forever Recovery, an open-ended drug and alcohol treatment program that gets clients off to a great start and gives them a solid foundation in recovery they can believe in, is highlighting an important and possibly life-changing – perhaps even life-saving – message that must be heeded by everyone who wants to understand the insidious nature of drug abuse: it doesn’t discriminate.
“Many people are of the belief that drug abuse targets a certain socioeconomic group, such as inner-city youth or those of a certain ethnic background,” commented A Forever Recovery’s CEO Per Wickstrom. “However, the statistics paint a very different picture. Across the country, people from all walks of are struggling with drug abuse and addiction. It cuts across all age groups, areas and walks of life.”
To help illustrate the essential point that drug abuse doesn’t discriminate, A Forever Recovery cites Jennifer Warner’s gripping book “All Fall Down”, which vividly and, at times, disturbingly portrays the downward spiral of an ordinary woman whose life dramatically changes for the worse when she becomes addicted to prescription painkillers.
“I [wrote the book] with the knowledge that painkiller addiction is a huge, and growing, problem for women — especially white, middle and upper-middle-class women,” Weiner told Entertainment Weekly, “the ones you’d see in yoga class or the carpool lane or at Whole Foods and never suspect they had a problem."
The blog post concludes, fittingly, with a reminder that individuals struggling with a drug abuse or addiction problem can get help and become sober -- provided that, along with the appropriate medical treatment and counseling they need, they’re willing and able to fight each day.
“There is no cure for the disease of addiction,” added Per Wickstrom. “However, this doesn’t mean that those suffering from addiction can’t life healthy, happy and hopeful lives free of drugs and alcohol. They can and they do; but they need to be part of the solution, and just as importantly, they need to have ongoing support that lasts well beyond their treatment program.”
