ADVA Optical Networking's Lead in Ethernet Devices Confirmed for Third Straight Year
Infonetics Research cites fiber deployments as key contributor to ADVA Optical Networking's performance
Norcross, Georgia, USA and Martinsried/Munich, Germany (Vocus/PRWEB ) May 8, 2009 -- ADVA Optical Networking today announced that Infonetics Research, an international market research and analyst firm specializing in the communications industry, has confirmed the company's first-place standing in Ethernet access devices (EADs) for the third year in a row. ADVA Optical Networking's FSP 150 family, featuring Etherjack® technology, accounted for 20 percent of worldwide EAD revenue in 2008.
According to the Infonetics Research biannual report, "Carrier Ethernet Equipment," worldwide EAD revenue reached $367 million in 2008--up 27 percent from the previous year--and is projected to reach $1.6 billion by 2013.
"The economic downturn favors carrier Ethernet technologies and products, as they are a less-expensive alternative to legacy equipment," wrote Michael Howard, principal analyst and co-founder of Infonetics Research. "In fact, service provider investment in carrier Ethernet equipment is growing faster than overall telecom capex. Carrier Ethernet is one of the key technologies globally integral to IP next-gen network (NGN) transformation projects pushing the move from TDM to packet-based networks. These IP NGN projects depend heavily on IP, MPLS and Ethernet, and gradually will employ the use of Ethernet transport instead of SONET/SDH."
Infonetics Research specifically forecast a 33 percent compound annual growth rate (CAGR) for EADs over the next five years.
