CUNO Improves Industry-leading Home Water Filter Cartridge, AP110 CUNO/3M -- Experts Team Up to Develop One of the Most Efficient Sediment Water Filter Cartridges Available

CUNO scientists and engineers have teamed up with materials experts from 3M to develop a markedly improved Aqua-Pure AP110 series cartridge for home filtration, featuring Micro-Klean™ XL technology*. The result: 30% longer life and 50% better efficiency than the original model. The new AP110 is one of the longest lasting, most efficient sediment cartridges in the industry.

Meriden, Conn. (PRWEB) June 15, 2007 -- CUNO scientists and engineers have teamed up with materials experts from 3M to develop a markedly improved Aqua-Pure AP110 series cartridge for home filtration, featuring Micro-Klean™ XL technology*. The result: 30% longer life and 50% better efficiency than the original model. The new AP110 is one of the longest lasting, most efficient sediment cartridges in the industry.

The new and improved AP110 means cleaner water for longer periods of time resulting in less change-outs (test data available).

"Since the 1950's, the Aqua-Pure AP110, AP111 and AP124 water filter cartridges have helped solve some of the world's toughest residential, commercial and industrial water sediment problems," said CUNO President and General Manager, Tim Carney. "We value our status as innovators and industry leaders and make it a priority to have our cartridge quality reflect our commitment to developing the best products possible."

Cleaner Water and Longer Life.

The new AP110 cartridge is manufactured using a patent pending process to form a progressively complex web of overlapping polymer fibers that entangle and entrap sediment, from larger particles collected at or near the cartridge surface to smaller particles that are captured as water filters through the fiber-dense center. This "progressive porosity" technology is unmatched in the industry for sediment trapping and cartridge life.

"A sediment cartridge's performance is evaluated by cartridge life and efficiency," Keith Solomon, CUNO engineer, said. Cartridge life refers to measuring the amount of contaminant the cartridge is challenged with before reaching a pre-determined differential pressure; Efficiency is the percentage of a particular particle size that is removed by the cartridge, he explained. "We are thrilled to report significant improvement in both cartridge life and efficiency resulting in a 30% extended life coupled with a 50% increase in efficiency."

Better Performance.
One of the trademark features of the original AP110 is its grooved surface, which significantly increases the cartridge surface area, allowing it to hold more dirt on the surface and resulting in increased cartridge life. In fact, the new AP110 cartridges have 132% more surface area than competing smooth, melt-blown cartridges. Improving on the square-groove technology with more and deeper grooves in the cartridge cylinder, the new AP110 has 47% more surface area than the original version.

It has also been enhanced to increase fine particle retention like silt and sand and can now even be used in hot water applications up to 170° F.

In addition, this product serves a special function with well water (where it is used as a pre-filter to a softener system) and sediment-producing water heaters.

The new AP110 will be available for purchase by July 1, 2007. Visit www.aquapure.com to find a distributor near you.

  • Micro-Klean™ XL technology is a patent pending process that optimizes depth structure and maximizes outside surface area. Most polymer-based cartridges on the market today have a uniform pore structure which results in less efficiency and/or shorter life. On the other hand, manufacturers attempting to emulate the progressive porosity AP110 structure have discrete density sections that dramatically reduce product life.
