"In this hard economic climate, many business owners debate applying for awards as this has been a hard year for a lot of people," said Cheryl Green, ASBA Vice President of Marketing and Communications. "But in fact, this is an opportune time for businesses across the state of Arizona to apply. We are looking ahead and want to celebrate companies that are succeeding in spite of the challenges."
To reflect the economic conditions, ASBA has also changed the criterion in the application. The organization announced that businesses employing six employees and up are now eligible for nomination, instead of the original ten-employee minimum.
Comerica Bank Arizona Companies to Watch is a joint effort by Comerica Bank and ASBA to annually spotlight growth-oriented companies that are succeeding and sustaining their business growth. To qualify, businesses must be privately owned companies, employing between 6 - 100 employees. Eligible businesses generate between $750,000 and $100 million in revenue, while creating jobs and growing sales through innovative products, services and practices. Publicly-traded firms and nonprofits are not eligible.
The deadline to submit applications is June 30, 2009. Qualifying companies can apply at AzCompaniesToWatch.org. The formal awards ceremony will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009, at The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel.
Donna Davis, CEO of ASBA, will participate in the judging and selection process along with executives from Comerica Bank, the Edward Lowe Foundation and other local business associations and organizations.
Following the celebration, the companies selected as Companies to Watch will join with the past winners from 2008 and 2007 in the Comerica Bank Arizona Companies to Watch Alliance, which will support companies in their continued growth.
The Sheraton Phoenix Downtown Hotel is located at 340 North 3rd Street, Phoenix, Arizona, 85004.
