The most recent Newsletter released by Absolute Rights takes a close look at the American gun debate sparked by the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut. Compiled by Managing Editor Tim Young, the articles in the Newsletter give insight and share opinions on the issue as part of Absolute Rights promise to provide quality content on the biggest news affecting our country.
The main article was written by Young, and it claims that the government is taking advantage of the tragic events in Newtown in order to disarm Americans. Each new shooting event seems to strengthen the stance, according to Young.
“Had it not been for our right to bear arms,” Young wrote, “our country would have never developed into the successful and free land that it is today. Guns and weapons are what brought us freedom, and will allow us to protect ourselves if ever that freedom is threatened again."
Contender’s Corner takes a different approach, and contributor Brent Dickerson shares his thoughts on President Obama’s response to a question about his first term in office. Obama argued that he had been busy running the country, but instead Dickerson calls him out and shares some truths about Obama’s time as commander in chief.
After disagreeing with the claim that Obama helped recover the economy and bail out the auto industry, Dickerson writes about the vacation time taken by the President. That, according to the article, is one of the sources of the perceived problem.
“It seems to me that there is plenty of time for the big man to get lots of things done including what Tapper asked him about – that is, if he were actually in his office doing work,” wrote Dickerson.
In the Crisis Ops portion of the Newsletter, contributor ‘Above Average’ Joe shares his opinion on the gun controversy. Joe now operates SurvivalLife.com, where the article is featured as a part of the quality content gathered there.
“Let’s be clear, this was a tragedy committed by a person with serious mental issues who did not understand the value of life, not a fallacy in gun control,” wrote Joe. “The gun was simply medium by which the act was committed, not the reason for the crime.”
The final article in the Newsletter is the Global Watch portion, which talks about the idea of punctuated equilibrium. Evolutionary changes that need to happen to keep an environment stable relate to the idea of Second Amendment rights,
“I have to wonder, with the closeness of events at the movie theater in Colorado, shootings in malls in Oregon and Wisconsin, and now the events in Connecticut, will these be punctuated events that turn our collective conviction of gun ownership rights on its head? Will politicians find a way to subvert our Second Amendment?” asked Dickerson in the article.
