Denver, CO (PRWEB) December 16, 2010
Akavit, a leading interactive agency and web technology company, today announced the development of a personal safety application for Android™ smartphones, called FORSSE™. Soteria Systems, a developer of high-performing, technology services designed to promote the safety and well-being of individuals and their communities, hired Akavit to develop the new FORSSE application and make it available to Android phone users on the Android Market. Android is a mobile operating system developed by Google.
“We had confidence in Akavit to develop the FORSSE app for Android smartphones because of their proven track record of developing high-quality applications on time and on budget,” said Charlie Groves, co-founder of Soteria Systems. “They know the technology and the Android marketplace and we definitely plan to work with them again.”
There are more than 190 million GPS-enabled phones and 60 million smartphones in use in the United States. Since being introduced in 2007, Google’s Android operating system is gaining widespread popularity. Just last month, 12 new Android smartphones were announced by five different phone carriers. Since August 2010, the Android Marketplace had over 100,000 Android applications, with over 1 billion downloads.
The FORSSE application is designed to send a distress signal to an emergency response operator by simply touching a button on a subscriber’s GPS-enabled phone and the system works anywhere in the United States where the subscriber has cellular coverage. It provides Android users with the confidence of knowing they have an alarm available if they find themselves in a situation where safety is a concern.
FORSSE is ideal for students, real estate agents, health care workers and anyone who wants to enhance their personal safety. The user can trigger an alert by simply launching the FORSSE app on the phone and tapping the alert button. Within seconds the experienced and well-trained FORSSE monitoring team is able to view the user’s profile, validate the crisis by listening to audio uploaded from the phone, track the user’s location using real-time GPS information, and notify the closest emergency response dispatch.
There is also a personal profile within the application that contains information such as personal contacts, allergies, health concerns, and car information (license plate number, make and model). This data is securely stored so only the owner of the phone and designated authorities can access the information in case of an emergency. The application also has security features that enable you to turn off the alarm by entering a personal PIN code. If after three tries the PIN is not entered correctly, then the phone locks down and the GPS coordinates and audio recordings continue to be sent.
To download FORSSE for your Android smartphone, find it on the Android Market on your handset.
