SkinStore.co.uk Announces a New Range of Chemically-Aware Cosmetics

To meet the growing consumer demand for cosmetics with fewer synthetic chemicals, SkinStore.co.uk now stocks a new range of products from Alterna for people concerned about the ingredients in their beauty products.

Wiltshire, UK, (PRWEB) July 21, 2008 -- SkinStore.co.uk has met a growing demand from their customers to stock more cosmetic ranges that contain fewer potentially harmful chemicals.

"Our customers are increasingly asking for a product that provides the results they expect but not at the expense of their health or the environment. This is why we have stocked the Alterna range," James Cooper from SkinStore.co.uk told us

Concern is growing around a group of sulphur- / sulphide-based chemicals that are present in the majority of the cosmetics on the market. The main two chemicals in this group are Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

It should be noted that these two chemicals are not to be confused with Sodium Lauryl Sulfoacetate. This is a naturally derived oil that is safe and skin friendly. It dissolves readily in water and cleanses without stripping or drying the skin.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate are responsible for producing lather and bubbles in products such as toothpaste, shampoo and shower gel. Concern is growing around the effect that these chemicals may have on long-term health. Reports claim that these range from skin irritation to potential carcinogenic effects.

When risks such as these are associated with a product, or ingredients in a product, consumers will always look for an alternative. The difficulty is that there is a near universal use of these chemicals in the beauty, cosmetic and cleaning product industries.

The demand for products that contain non-volatile chemicals is growing as information about their long term effects grows. Alterna is one of a growing number of companies that mirror their customers' concerns over the long term risks associated with some chemicals. Their hair care range contains a large number of products that are free from Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and Sodium Laureth Sulfate.

Industry insiders expect the number of products like these to increase as consumers become more cautious about the chemicals they expose themselves. This in turn will lead to more companies using their chemical-free status as a marketing tool.
