Ginko Biloba Does Not Prevent Dementia Or Alzheimer's But Treadmill Desks Do

Ginko Biloba does not assist in the prevention of dementia or Alzheimer's nor increase brain capacity as previously believed; walking throughout the day on a treadmill desk however, does.

Phoenix (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 19, 2008 -- This week it was announced that Vitamin supplements A-E were ineffective in preventing cancers. Today the Journal of the American Medical Association announced that another supplement, Ginko Biloba, long believed to have brain boosting and protective powers proved impotent as well. Though Ginko Biloba does not assist in the prevention of dementia or Alzheimer's nor increase brain capacity as previously believed, walking throughout the day on a treadmill desk does.

"The evidence is overwhelming about the positive mental effects of consistent daily walking. The challenge is fitting enough time in the day to achieve sufficient levels of activity, treadmill desks offer a solution," states Steve Bordley founder of TrekDesk, a treadmill desk manufacturer. "Studies have already shown that walking can increase memory by as much as 50% and in as little as 6 months, that it can prevent the onset or severity of dementia and Alzheimer's which affects more than 5 million Americans, yet we constantly search for a pill to provide a cure."

TrekDesk's mission is to educate Americans that many of the health issues facing them are in their power to control, often without the need for medication. "Modern science is revealing that a common sense approach of daily exercise and proper dietary selection offers the best chance of living a long, happy, disease free life," related Bordley. TrekDesk's website at http://www.trekdesk.com contains excerpts of numerous studies outlining the effectiveness of incorporating daily walking and the correlated increases in disease prevention. "When you look at the diseases that are burdening our health care systems today, walking throughout the day can prevent or mitigate the effects of all of them, including the big three: heart disease, cancers, and diabetes."

Major corporations have discovered that installing treadmill desks in the office can cut health care costs and boost productivity as well. Studies out of the University of Illinois have proven that walking increases the efficiency and capacity of both memory and attention span. In effect, walking while working makes employees smarter.

Walking has been shown to have other effects on the brain as well. Studies have shown that walking also reduces stress, boosts mood, prevents mild depression and is more effective than the most widely prescribed medications for this condition. Walking throughout the day releases levels of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine, neurotransmitters that affect mood. These are the same brain chemicals whose levels are targeted by antidepressant medications Prozac, Paxil and Zoloft.

Treadmill desks offer employees an opportunity to enhance their physical and mental health, boost their productivity, and the ability to leave work feeling energized and empowered, a fact that no drug or supplement can ever claim.
