American Mensa Members to Descend on Reno for “END OF TIME” Gathering

American Mensa’s 2012 Annual Gathering is taking place July 4-8 in Reno, Nev. at The Silver Legacy Casino and Hotel. This five-day event happens every year during the Independence Day holiday and is an opportunity for members of the high IQ organization to connect with colleagues and friends. This year’s theme is The End of Time.

“The Mayans actually considered ‘the end of time’ to be a transitional period, foreseeing a new way of thinking and living,” says Ken Wright, Annual Gathering 2012 Chairman. “We hope our members will learn a few interesting things, think a few new thoughts, have fun with friends and family, and enjoy all that Reno-Tahoe has to offer.”

This five-day event will provide an opportunity for members to connect with colleagues and friends. More than 250 lectures with a wide array of speakers and subjects including genetic engineering, fashion, science fiction, brain optimization, podcasting and Civil War-era fiddle music will be offered. In addition, Mensa member and co-star of “The Amazing Spiderman,” Leif Gantvoort, will discuss what it’s like to be part of a storied franchise and share his experience as a writer and actor.

For non-members who would like to participate in the gathering there are two events the public is invited to:

•     The Colloquium on Social and Video Games, Tuesday, July 3, 8:30 A.M.-6:30 P.M. at the Silver Legacy Hotel, Expo C - Attendees are invited to explore the evolving world of social gaming and video games, how gender issues are changing how games are developed, and how organizations are turning to social games for marketing and fund raising. There is a Colloquium registration fee of $69, which includes both morning and afternoon sessions and a buffet lunch.
•     American Mensa testing session, Saturday, July 7, 9:00 A.M.-Noon at the Silver Legacy Hotel, Expo B - The testing session is for those who would like to qualify for membership. Anyone who takes the test will receive a one-day pass to the Annual Gathering. The pass is valid only on 7/7/12. The test is specially priced for this event at $25 (a $15 savings) and open to anyone 14 years old and above. A parent or guardian must accompany those under 18. All test takers should bring a photo ID.
