American Public University System Appoints Dean to School of Education

Lynne M. Bailey brings 20 years of education experience to online university system.

Charles Town, WV (Vocus/PRWEB ) January 5, 2009 -- Dr. Lynne M. Bailey was recently appointed Dean of the School of Education at American Public University System (APUS) (http://www.apus.edu), a regionally accredited online university system that serves 41,000 adult learners studying in 50 states and more than 100 countries. Dr. Bailey’s vision for the APUS School of Education is to foster a vibrant community of learning dedicated to the development of effective, knowledgeable, responsible, reflective, and collaborative education professionals.

Dr. Bailey brings to APUS more than 20 years of valuable skills and experience as an educator. She most recently served as an assistant professor in the Department of Middle, Secondary and K12 Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. She also served as a visiting assistant professor in the Department of Educational Studies at the University of Central Florida and taught in the Orange County (FL) Public Schools for more than 12 years.

“Lynne has a wealth of experience as an educator and has done great work studying and implementing research on public school education,” said Karan Powell, Ph.D., Senior Vice President and Academic Dean for APUS. “She has already made great strides to enhance programming and processes in the School of Education at APUS.”

In addition to a public school teaching career, Dr. Bailey has experience at the university level training, supervising, mentoring, and guiding the preparation of hundreds of future educators. She has a research and publication record as well as leadership and participation in recognized national and international education organizations.

Dr. Bailey’s research interests include: examining stakeholder responses to curriculum integration in the middle grades, theoretical underpinnings of curriculum integration, and literacy development in the middle grades.

“I am excited and eager to work with APUS on its agenda to promote the development of excellent teachers, administrators, and counselors,” said Dr. Bailey. “We have an expert and approachable group of faculty and staff that are extremely enthusiastic about our programs and are ready to assist students in achieving new levels of academic success.”

Dr. Bailey holds an Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction and an M.Ed. in English Education from the University of Central Florida. She is a member of several professional organizations including the International Study Association for Teachers and Teaching and the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum. She currently serves as executive secretary, editorial review board member, past conference chair, and conference proposal review member for the American Association for Teaching and Curriculum.

The School of Education at APUS offers the following degree programs:

 
  • Master of Education: Administration and Supervision (36 credit hours)
  • Master of Education: Guidance and Counseling (48 credit hours)
  • Master of Education: Teaching – Elementary Education (48 credit hours)
  • Master of Education: Teaching – Instructional Leadership (36 credit hours)
  • Master of Education: Teaching – Secondary Social Studies (48 credit hours)

Candidates in all the online Master of Education programs, except the Master of Education: Teaching – Instructional Leadership, will be eligible to earn the West Virginia teaching certificate upon completion of the program.

The School of Education also offers a Post-baccalaureate Teacher Preparation Certification Program for those interested in pursuing teaching after completing a Bachelor’s program in a different subject area.

NOTE: Teachers with licenses in West Virginia may apply for licensure in other states. Many states have formal reciprocity agreements with West Virginia. Persons considering licensure in additional states should contact the State Department of Education for the prospective state to obtain current testing and licensure requirements or procedures.
