Summit Entertainment—makers of the Twilight movies and the Oscar winning The Hurt Locker—has optioned bestselling author and screenwriter Andrew Klavan’s Homelanders young adult thriller series for film.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, producer of Transformers and Stardust, will produce. The Homelanders series deals with teenager Charlie West’s quest to find out why he’s become the target of jihadist terrorists and police. The second book in the four book Homelanders series, The Long Way Home, is in stores now. It is the sequel to last year’s The Last Thing I Remember.
“I’m really excited about this,” said Klavan. “These are top-notch filmmakers who can make movies as action-packed as the books are. The Homelanders books are action packed, filled with drama, suspense and romance…they’ll translate great to the screen.”
Several of Andrew Klavan’s bestselling novels have already been made into hit movies includes True Crime starring Clint Eastwood, and Don’t Say A Word, starring Michael Douglas. Klavan also wrote the screenplays to A Shock to the System, starring Michael Caine, and 2008’s One Missed Call, with Ed Burns and Shannyn Sossamon. He’s been nominated for the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Award five times and won twice. Stephen King hailed Klavan as “the most original American novelist of crime and suspense since Cornell Woolrich.”
Klavan is a contributing editor to City Journal, the magazine of the Manhattan Institute. His essays and
op-eds on politics, religion, movies, and literature have appeared in the New York Times, the Washington Post and many other publications.
Early reviews of The Long Way Home have been very encouraging; Booklist says The Long Way Home contains “action sequences that never let up, and showy set pieces that are wrung for every possible drop of nervous sweat. Best of all, unlike many second chapters, this one pays off with some seriously heavy revelations.” The Washington Times review says Klavan is “A solid storyteller with a keen eye for detail and vivid descriptive power.”
Andrew Klavan is a frequent media guest and culture commentator for major national television, radio and print outlets.
