We believe we're on the precipice of a global mobile phenomenon. And with four billion text messages already in the books, the numbers speak for themselves.

Makers of WhosHere®, the popular mobile friend finder with more than four million registered users, announced today the app has sent over four billion free text messages across its network.

The first-of-its-kind iOS application works by showing users a list of compatible new friends in their immediate vicinity. If someone piques their interest, users can send unlimited free text messages, images, and VoIP calls—without disclosing any personal information.

“We’re doing our best to lighten the load for wireless carriers,” quipped WhosHere founder and CEO, Bryant Harris, whose already-profitable brainchild tops out at over 15 million free text messages per day and is localized in 14 languages. “As the first out of the gate for this type of offering, we’ve had ample time to strengthen and refine our product. Clearly, the demand for our service is here, it’s growing, and it’s keeping our developers awfully busy.”

In just three years since WhosHere invented mobile friend finding for iOS, it has already had a major global impact—attracting millions of users all over the world, with it’s densest user-bases in North America, Korea and the Middle East.

One of the keys to WhosHere’s success is its distinctly safe yet unrestricted social environment—something its makers have dubbed “Total Freedom.”

“WhosHere is free in every sense of the word,” explained Harris. “Individual users are free to provide as little or as much information as they choose, while others are free to browse that information for whatever purposes they envision—romance, friendship, networking. It’s dating app success without the dating app. No labels, no fears, no expectations. Just total freedom and total control.”

Backed by Lightbank—the technology investment fund created by Groupon co-founders Eric Lefkofsky and Brad Keywell—WhosHere projects exponential growth in new users, calls and texts. At its current rate, the app will send its 10 billionth text message by the end of 2012.

“We believe we’re on the precipice of a global mobile phenomenon,” concluded Harris. “And with four billion text messages already in the books, the numbers speak for themselves.”

WhosHere runs on all Apple iOS devices: iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It is available for free download on Apple’s iTunes App Store and can be found at WhosHere.net.
