Beds For Kids was formed in 2008 by Ashley Furniture HomeStore to help children of single parent families in need. A bed to sleep on seems to be a basic need in our American society, and also something that is easily taken for granted. Most Americans may not realize that their neighbor could be going without this basic need in these cold winter months ahead.

Beds For Kids is a very straightforward local charity program, “We provide beds to children of single parents that don’t have their own bed to sleep in,” states Rhiannon Edwards, Director of Marketing at the Ashley Furniture store in Springfield, MO. And it is very simple for those in need to apply, “To qualify, you have to be a single parent.”

According to a study released by the U.S. Census Bureau in 2009, 21.8 million children are being raised in single parent homes. That is 26% of the population of children in the United States. With half of single mother families having an annual income less than $25,000, some things even as basic as a bed for their child to sleep on becomes impossible to afford on their own.

Ashley Furniture HomeStores by Covington Holdings are proud to be a part of this cause. All throughout the year – whether it’s the middle of July or the middle of January – they donate $5 of every mattress purchase towards buying a bed for a child of a single parent in need. Since 2008, over 225 beds have been given to local children of single parent families in need.

Beds for Kids is a charitable cause that the Ashley Furniture team members feel that they can get behind and fully support in their community, something that encourages unity and teamwork amongst the employees.

Applications will be released for pickup at your local Ashley Furniture HomeStore the day after Christmas and will be accepted until the end of January. Participating stores in the area include the Ashley Furniture store in Springfield, MO, the furniture store in Joplin, MO, the Northwest Arkansas furniture store in Rogers, AR and the Northwest Arkansas furniture store in Springdale, AR – all four Covington Holdings locations.
