Author Solutions, LLC, a Penguin Random House company and the world leader in supported self-publishing services, is highlighting Roger Williams, author of the Xlibris title “Turn Back Blow,” in its Real Authors Real Impact campaign.

A native of Jamaica, Williams has a passion for animals and ending the maltreatment of them in Jamaica and around the world. His compassion for animals arose from someone having poisoned his mother’s pig when he was a young child. Williams saw a barbaric YouTube video with some Jamaicans using a live dog as bait to capture a crocodile, and it prompted him to self-publish his novel to shed light on the issue.

“After seeing the inhuman way those people treated that dog, I knew that my island of Jamaica has a severe animal cruelty problem, so I decided to do something about animal cruelty and write ‘Turn Back Blow,’” Williams said. “This book is bringing awareness to animal cruelty, not only to the Jamaican people, but to people all over the world.”

Williams said the title, “Turn Back Blow,” is adapted from an old Jamaican saying that means “whatever evil you do, some form of evil will turn back on you.” This sentiment plays out in Williams’ novel; when two men attempt to use one of the animal characters (a dog) as bait to capture a crocodile, all the animals of the village of Iron Bridge rise up to revolt.

“If I can get children to be compassionate to animals via my book and help develop compassion from an early age, it's a great chance to help those children grow into compassionate adults,” Williams commented.

He added that as a result of “Turn Back Blow” being catalogued by the libraries of top universities including Harvard, Yale, Princeton and Oxford, the Caribbean’s largest newspaper, The Jamaica Gleaner published two articles, further spreading Williams’ message.
