AutoSkill and "District Administration" Grants to Honor Creative Programs for Raising Student Achievement
Applications for $50,000 Grand Prize Award in Cash, Software and Services Accepted Through October 15
Norwalk, Conn., and Ottawa (PRWEB) July 30, 2008 -- Every day educators at U.S. schools launch innovative programs designed to raise achievement for struggling students. Now one creative school or district can win up to $50,000 in cash and software to support its creative program, with the launch of the Second Annual "District Administration" X-Factor Student Achievement Grant. Sponsored by AutoSkill International, this grant program challenges educators to demonstrate their "X-Factor" by submitting creative ideas for using the Academy of READING® or the Academy of MATH® from AutoSkill to raise reading and math achievement for at-risk, English language learner, low-income, minority or special education students.
"Educators have great ideas for raising student achievement at their schools, but often need an infusion of resources to put their plans into action," said Daniel E. Kinnaman, publisher, "District Administration." "We are collaborating with AutoSkill for the second year on this grant program to provide creative educators with the resources they need to make their visions a reality and improve reading and math achievement for their struggling students."
To enter, schools or districts submit a description (500 words or fewer) of the kind of program they would develop to change the lives of struggling students. The deadline is Oct. 15, 2008.
In early November 2008, a panel of "District Administration" editors will evaluate the submissions based on practicality, measurable outcomes, speed of implementation and scalability (can the program be easily replicated at any size of school or district). Literacy advocate John Corcoran, author of "The Teacher Who Couldn't Read," will join the panel as a guest judge to pare down the top 50 submissions and choose the winner and runners-up. Schools can submit a pilot program concept for a single student group, class or school, as long as it can be easily applied across the school and/or district.
One grand prize winner will receive a $20,000 cash grant plus $30,000 in AutoSkill reading and math intervention software and professional development. Other grants will go to regional runners-up. All winners will be profiled in the January 2009 issue of "District Administration" magazine.
The winner of the first X-Factor Student Achievement Grant was Mohawk Elementary School in Bessemer, Pa. The school was recognized for its innovative action-based learning program that combined a cross-curricular approach with physical activity to reinforce learning at a very young age. In addition, 15 regional runners-up were profiled in "District Administration's" September 2007 issue.
