Wilsonville, Oregon (PRWEB) March 07, 2013

Gwynn Rucker, the current chair of the Washington Health Care Association (WHCA) and a highly regarded leader and advocate of long-term care in the state of Washington, has joined Avamere Health Services as a Regional Director of Operations for the Washington and Colorado areas.

Rucker brings her extensive background and knowledge to this position having worked in leadership capacities for some of the largest healthcare providers in the state of Washington. Her eight years with WHCA has seen her ascend the ranks where she served as the Vice Chair until 2010, and most recently as Chair. During this time, Rucker has traveled to Capitol Hill on several occasions to speak with representatives – including Senator Maria Cantwell (D-WA) – about the effect changes in Medicare has on seniors throughout Washington.

“Our seniors are immediately affected by legislative changes, but the reach is deeper than that,” says Rucker. “Families, employees of long-term care facilities, and communities all feel the change when reimbursements are cut. Adult children become caregivers for parents, employees risk the loss of a job, and extra burden is placed on the community to support these individuals.”

It is for Rucker’s experience and advocacy on behalf of seniors that Matthew Hilty, Vice President of Operations for Avamere Health Services, says, “Gwynn is recognized as one of the finest leaders in long-term care in the state … and has led the entire long-term care sector through some of the most problematic financial times in the history of the state.”

Avamere Family of Companies helps seniors in more than 30 communities throughout Oregon and Washington. Avamere offers home care, independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, rehabilitation therapy, and hospice services.

The mission of the Washington Health Care Association is to assist its members in providing high quality care and service to their residents. Its objective is to encourage and promote principles and programs that will provide long-term health care residents with the highest quality medical, nursing and personal care, with the goal of maximizing their individual independence and potential.
