Jazeera Airways Selects Rockwell Collins Avionics and IFE for 30 A320s
Jazeera Airways has selected Rockwell Collins to provide a comprehensive suite of next-generation avionics, including the company’s Multiscan™ Hazard Detection System, Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and data link system, and the company’s second-generation dPAVES™ in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, for 30 Airbus A320 aircraft.
Dubai (Vocus/PRWEB ) November 15, 2009 -- Jazeera Airways has selected Rockwell Collins to provide a comprehensive suite of next-generation avionics, including the company’s Multiscan™ Hazard Detection System, Traffic Collision Avoidance System (TCAS) and data link system, and the company’s second-generation dPAVES™ in-flight entertainment (IFE) system, for 30 Airbus A320 aircraft. Deliveries will begin in January 2010.
The announcement was made at the Dubai Airshow 2009. A signing ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 15, at the Rockwell Collins Stand No. 350 in the East Hall.
“Jazeera Airways has been a customer of our avionics and in-flight entertainment systems since they launched service in 2005,” said Jeff Standerski, vice president and general manager for Air Transport Systems at Rockwell Collins.

Rockwell Collins dPAVES™ in-flight entertainment (IFE) system brings all the quality and conveniences of digital technology to the cabin of narrow body aircraft, while reducing weight, volume and power consumption. dPAVES Broadcast Digital Server (BDS) offers 160 gigabyte storage capability, integrated pre-recorded announcement machine (PRAM) functionality and embedded Airshow Moving Map – all in one 4 MCU box. The large storage capability of the BDS allows for multiple play periods of entertainment content, and the server automatically selects the new content when the new play period starts.
The Rockwell Collins MultiScan™ Hazard Detection System analyzes and determines actual weather hazards, not simply atmospheric moisture content. The MultiScan system is derived from extensive operational experience to create a fully automatic, hands-free airborne radar system that reduces pilot workload, enhances safety and passenger comfort by minimizing unexpected turbulence encounters, and provides optimal clutter-free weather displays.
Rockwell Collins’ data link system supports current Mode 2 31.5 Kbits/sec VHF data radios and is the future platform for air traffic control data link mandates such as Link 2000+. It allows flight crews to request and receive messages such as clearances, flight plan updates, weather data, diversion and emergency reports and passenger lists. The system can be tailored with application-specific menus and messages to further enhance efficiency and optimize operations. The system also supports the automatic downlink of engine and fuel performance data, which can be used to reduce maintenance and operating costs.
Jazeera Airways also has selected a full array of Rockwell Collins sensors including the ADF-900 Automatic Direction Finder, CPL-920D Coupling Unit, DME-900 Distance Measuring Equipment, HFS-900D HF Data Radio, GLU-925 Multi Mode Receiver, GNA-925 GPS Antenna, LRA-900 Low-range Radio Altimeter, RAA-700 Radio Altimeter Antenna, RDMI-743 Radio Distance Magnetic Indicator, TTR-921 TCAS, VOR-900 VHF Omnidirectional Radio, and VHF-2100 Very High Frequency Transceiver.
