RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC (PRWEB) May 10, 2012
Bayer CropScience (http://www.bayercropscience.us), one of the world’s top innovators in the areas of crop protection, non-agricultural pest control, seeds and traits, received an inaugural “A Better World” award from the Triangle Business Journal for the company’s passion and commitment to local nonprofit organizations in the Raleigh area in 2011. During an awards banquet held Thursday, April 19, at North Ridge Country Club in Raleigh, Bayer CropScience was recognized for cultivating partnerships with local charitable organizations in response to challenges facing the greater Triangle community.
During the year, more than 200 local Bayer CropScience employees dedicated their time and expertise toward solving the problems of hunger and homelessness, as well as enriching the Triangle community through hands-on science education efforts. The beneficiaries of employee volunteerism included Passage Home, United Way of the Greater Triangle, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina and The Shepherd’s Table Soup Kitchen, among others. Additionally, Bayer CropScience employees supported the company’s “Making Science Make Sense” program that advances science literacy through hands-on, inquiry-based learning at area schools. Bayer CropScience company donations in 2011 totaled more than $475,000.
“At Bayer CropScience, we encourage employees to cultivate answers to the problems and opportunities facing their communities in the areas of education and workforce development, environment and sustainability, health and human services, and arts and culture,” said Peg Cherny, vice president of regulatory, government affairs and communications. “Volunteerism is central to our mission, and we look forward to seeing the continued hard work and dedication of our volunteers in inspiring and leading others to a better tomorrow.”
