Is a jungle beach setting and luxurious accommodations mutually exclusive? It is often thought that vacationers must choose between natural, ecological surroundings and luxurious accommodations, but at Casa Oceano beachfront villa in Costa Rica, the eco-traveler can experience both!
Take advantage of the upcoming turtle nesting season, starting now, but most active in September, October and November. Turtles often come up at night to nest on the beach directly in front of the Casa Oceano, and sometimes even during the day. Turtles will lay between 60 and 100 eggs at a time. Then the baby turtles will hatch in about 45 days and scramble for the ocean, hopefully under the cover of darkness and safe from most predators. Years later, when the hatchlings are mature, they will make their way back to the same beach, often to the same spot, to once again begin the cycle of life.
Casa Oceano, a luxury beach rental villa, has six bedrooms, is directly on the beach and surrounded by jungle areas that are home to exotic, tropical wildlife - howler monkeys, white faced monkeys, iguanas, geckos, and parrots, most of which can be observed and photographed from the oceanfront patio or cantilevered, bedroom balconies. An oceanfront infinity pool provides unforgettable views and sunset colors and is just 10 steps from the sand. The gourmet kitchen and living room areas have flow through ventilation, keeping you in touch with nature. If preferred, all rooms are air-conditioned. Premium satellite televisions are in all bedrooms and the living room. There is a guest computer, internet, and iPod docking station. Three bedrooms have whirlpool baths. A meal plan is available featuring Costa Rican flavors, fresh lobster and shrimp, as well as international cuisine.
Activities around the villa include boogie boarding, which are provided at no charge, for the more adventurous ocean lovers. Surfing depends more on the tides and season, and when the surf is up, there is a great point break just to the right of the house for the more experienced surfers. For the more advanced surfer, the famed Mal Pais surf area is just 40 minutes away. Tide pools in front of the villa are a favorite of the kids, who can spend hours there amazed by the tropical fish, hermit crabs, and the seasonal, purple and orange colored land crabs. Other wildlife include geckos, iguanas, butterflies, hummingbirds and the walk on the water, "Jesus Christ" lizard. Horseback riding on the beach is available through the stables of the Tango Mar Beach Hotel and Resort, a private nature reserve, in which Casa Oceano is located. A nearby waterfall that flows into the ocean is just a short hike from the villa.
Eco-tours in the immediate area include the Tortuga Island Tour, which is one of the most enchanting islands of Costa Rica, with white sand beaches and snorkeling. A Canopy tour is available in nearby Montezuma where the adventure traveler can zip line through the forest, or hike to the nearby inland waterfall. Coastal and deep sea fishing charters by experienced local captains usually provide fresh dorado to cook for dinner. There are two wildlife reserves nearby, the Curu Private Biological Park and Cabo Blanco National Park. ATV riders can venture to inland rivers, waterfalls and coastal trails with ocean views.
