Will Obama hold onto the White House? Are the Romneys poised to redecorate? While the nation will have to wait until Election Day for answers to the above, political junkies can get geared up for election excitement ahead with the Presidential Package and an Election Night party from The Renaissance Blackstone, Chicago Hotel.
Whatever your political preference, enjoy the perks of plugged-in power brokers with the Presidential Package from The Blackstone, including:
The Presidential Package starts at $500 per night based on double occupancy; package valid through Election Day, November 6, 2012. To reserve the Presidential Package at The Renaissance Blackstone, A Chicago Hotel, guests must call the hotel directly at 312-447-0955. More information on the package can be found here: http://www.blackstonerenaissance.com/presidential-package/
If you are lucky enough to be staying at the Blackstone on this year’s Election Night, you can party with your own party in a private room while you watch the polls and root for your hopeful president. The Smoke-Filled Room will be designated for the Republicans, since this is where Warren G. Harding got the Republican nomination, and the Suite of Presidents will play host to the Democrats since FDR dubbed the name. Each room will be decorated in that party’s colors and Blackstone wine and candy cigars will be served.
The Beaux-Arts landmark on Chicago’s South Loop is a dream destination for aficionados of Presidential politics. Nicknamed “The Hotel of Presidents,” The Blackstone has hosted a dozen U.S. heads of state since opening in 1910, welcoming everyone from William Howard Taft to Richard M. Nixon on one side of the political divide and Woodrow Wilson to Jimmy Carter on the other. There are even special guest quarters designed just for Presidents with hollowed walls to aid the Secret Service.
FDR, Truman and Eisenhower all caught wind of their respective nominations while checked into The Blackstone. And when cigar-puffing Republican kingmakers holed up at the hotel to broker the 1920 nomination of Warren G. Harding, an imaginative Associated Press report described their accommodation as a “smoke-filled room.” The phrase has been among the most colorful in our political parlance ever since.
