100 Essential Bollywood Movies for DVD Rental at Blockbuster.co.uk, just in Time for Diwali

Blockbuster's list of 100 essential Bollywood movies includes audience-pleasing Hindi classics well worth making a song and dance about. Films blending comedy, drama, romance, adventure, music and everything else you fancy are available for DVD rental online at Blockbuster.co.uk.

Uxbridge, London (PRWeb UK/PRWEB ) October 15, 2009 -- Blockbuster's list of 100 essential Bollywood movies includes audience-pleasing Hindi classics well worth making a song and dance about. Films blending comedy, drama, romance, adventure, music and everything else you fancy are available for DVD rental online at Blockbuster.co.uk.

The gathering of families for the celebration of Diwali on 17th October provides the ideal setting to watch some family comedies and drama on DVD. With children's entertainment in mind the list contains "Blue Umbrella" about a young girl from a small Indian village who finds an exotic blue umbrella and is instantly smitten with it, and "Bunty Aur Babli" a musical which follows the escapades of Bunty and Babli as they search for the means in which they can achieve their dreams.

Top of the list is "Namesake", a family drama spanning two generations about two clashing cultures and two very different ways of life that crash into each other only to become lovingly intertwined. Jumping between the equally colourful and vibrant cities of Calcutta and New York, `The Namesake` is about a very different kind of contemporary American family: the Gangulis, who came to the U.S. from India in order to experience a world of limitless opportunities - only to be confronted with the perils and confusion of trying to build a meaningful life in a baffling new society.

Another film high on the list is "Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke". Made in 2002 it is about Rahul who has to look after his sister's three children after her death. The children, Muni, Sunny and Vicki are very badly behaved and Rahul struggles to cope. On a visit to the local fair they come across a runaway named Vayjanti and they decide to help her which leads to all sorts of complications.

"Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge" is about Raj, a young man from London who takes a Euro rail holiday with his friends. Whilst away he meets with Simran and eventually the pair fall in love and Raj must persuade Simran's parents that he is a worthy suitor! Starring Shah Rukh Khan it is an entertaining film.

Also on the list and starring Shah Rukh Khan is "Swades, We The People" which is story about a scientist who returns to India intent on tracking down his childhood nanny.

Other films in the list include "Sarkar" directed by Ram Gopal Varma, starring Amitabh Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan and "Virasat" directed by Priya Darsan and starring Anil Kapoor, Tabu and Pooja Batra.

"Sarkar" is a story about Priyamvada Veer Pratap Singh, who is caught in the tension between caring for the needs of her family and taking part in political power games. "Virasat" is the story of the son of a landowner who returns to the rural village in which he was born after having been away and educated in the city. He finds himself becoming entangled with life in the village and finds it difficult to leave.

The list would not be complete without the inclusion of "Lagaan" a movie involving the national sport of "cricket". Champaner a town in India is hit by a terrible drought so the villagers get together to ask the authorities for a halt to their taxes, which are called 'Lagaan'. Unfortunately for the locals, a decision is made to raise the taxes unless the villagers can beat the local army platoon at a game of cricket. The problem is no one in the village can play cricket, will the villagers manage to win against all odds?
