Over time, McElroy Weddings has gone to just about every great venue in New England from backyards to grand resorts. Here is a list of the venues that really rose above the rest from last year’s incredible wedding season in no particular order.
1. Wequassett Resort and Country Club (Harwich, MA)
The Wequassett, located on Cape Cod, is a beautiful venue for a wedding. With Pleasant Bay in the background, couples can exchange vows outside on the seaside lawn surrounded by the lush flower gardens. The Grand Pavillion Room is spacious and offers a great view of the Bay. It was awarded the Knot’s “Best of Weddings Three Stars” since 2008. Also, it was on the 2010 & 2012 Wedding Style Platinum List.
2. Boston Public Library (Boston, MA)
The Boston Public Library is a well-known landmark and a must-stop for visitors to the city, but did you know they also host wedding ceremonies and receptions? Couples have the chance to state their vows in the tranquil cloisters of the courtyard and make their way up the grand staircase to have cocktails in the Pierre Puvis Chavannes Gallery. In the reception hall, friends and family are surrounded by hundreds of bookshelves. It won the Wedding Wire’s 2012 “Bride’s Choice Award.”
3. The Barn at Gibbet Hill (Groton, MA)
The Barn at Gibbet Hill became a wedding venue ten years ago when the rainy weather nearly spoiled a couple’s wedding day. The ceremony was moved inside to the barn, and a makeshift hall was formed. Two years later, the barn was completely renovated and restored, becoming what CBS-4 called “the best wedding venue in the Boston Area!” The barn can hold up to 220 people that includes a dance floor and heated deck.
4. Glen Magna Farms (Danvers, MA)
This estate has been described “as near to heaven as one can be in this world.” The eleven acres includes formal gardens with colorful perennials, annuals, shrubbery, and an arboretum. Also decorating the greenery are statues, fountains, sweeping lawns, and winding pathways. Accommodating up to 125 guests, the mansion is a gorgeous location for a wedding. It won the Wedding Wire’s “Bride’s Choice Award” from 2010-2012.
5. State Room (Boston, MA)
The State Room provides four different rooms to choose from for your wedding reception, each providing guests with a breathtaking view of Boston. Each room has a modern, contemporary feel. Being so high up makes the guests feel like they are on top of the world. For six years in a row, the State Room has been awarded “Best Wedding Reception” by the Know Magazine.
6. TAJ Boston (Boston, MA)
The TAJ offers a variety of choices for a couple to hold their wedding reception, from the roof on the 17th floor to the grand ballroom. Three of the main ballrooms can even hold at least 200 guests. While there, guests will get a stunning view of the city. Floor-to-ceiling windows and grand chandeliers decorate the ballrooms providing a stunning ambience. The TAJ is also conveniently located near the Boston Public Gardens, Logan Airport, and the Theatre District.
7. Worcester Art Museum (Worcester, MA)
This venue provides wedding guests with world-renowned collections covering over fifty centuries of art including, ancient mosaics, prints, sculptures, and more. Couples can choose from several rooms to host their guests. Each room can hold at least 100 guests. The museum gives a majestic feel to every wedding with the pillars, arches, and candlelight.
8. Seaport Boston (Boston, MA)
The Seaport provides multiple locations in Boston to host a wedding. A couple can choose from two different sites for their reception: the Seaport Boston Hotel and the Seaport World Trade Center. They provide stunning views of the city of Boston as well as the harbor.
9. Omni Parker House (Boston, MA)
The Omni Parker House has been hosting couples since 1855. Friends and family of all ages can enjoy the modern amenities, yet historic charm of this hotel. Also, the bride and groom can take photographs together on the balcony with the landscape of Boston in the background. Their rooftop ballroom, the only one in the city, occupies the entire 15th floor; it can hold up to 250 guests. The Knot has voted the Omni Parker House the “Best Wedding Venue” from 2008-2012.
10. Nashoba Valley Winery (Bolton, MA)
The Nashoba Winery provides an intimate location for a bride and groom to celebrate their marriage whether it’s indoor or outdoors. Friends and family are surrounded by the acres of orchards, gardens, ponds, and walking paths. The newlyweds also have the chance to take photos within the vineyards. The Knot voted the winery the “Best Outdoor Wedding Site” in the fall/winter of 2009.
