Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, Inc. (FLPG) Receives Brine Family Trust Grant

Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, Inc. received the Brine Family Charitable Trust Grant for the restoration of grasslands on Vineyard Field.

(PRWEB) October 4, 2007 -- Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt, Inc. received the Brine Family Charitable Trust Grant for the restoration of grasslands on Vineyard Field. Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt is dedicated to the preservation, stewardship, and public appreciation of the unique expanse of coastal plain ponds, freshwater swamps, wetlands, and woodlands in the Town of Southampton known as the Long Pond Greenbelt. The Friends of the Long Pond Greenbelt project's goal is to remove invasive plants blocking the existing public trail and threatening the rare ecosystem called an "old field," consisting of ponds and native grasslands. Restoration of "old field" grasslands will benefit flora and fauna including rare and endangered native plants, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians, as well as butterflies, bees, dragonflies, and birds.

Dai Dayton, FLPG Secretary, says, "We are very excited about this grant. It will allow us to complete the reclamation of our rare old field ecosystem in the Long Pond Greenbelt and to welcome back the native plants and animals."

The Brine Family Charitable Trust 2007 Summer Grant program for the East End of Long Island was created to fund projects on Long Island that serve to sustain The East End’s biodiversity, recover its endangered species, and maintain its natural ecosystem.

The Brine Family Charitable Trust, founded by Kevin R. Brine in 1989, is a recognized 501(c)(3) established as a private nonoperating foundation under section 509(a) of the Internal Revenue code. The trust does not accept donations.
