14th BB&T Classic Presented by Boeing features Maryland, George Washington, Virginia Tech and Navy.
Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 2, 2008 -- As has been the practice for 14 years, the annual BB&T Classic presented by Boeing will usher in the local college basketball season with a headliner lineup showcasing regional schools on this Sunday (Dec. 7) at Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. The University of Maryland and George Washington University, host universities in the annual event that benefits the Children's Charities Foundation (CCF), will meet in the second game of the doubleheader while Virginia Tech and Navy will meet in the first game.
"Each year for the past 14 years, the BB&T Classic presented by Boeing has featured tremendous games between our outstanding local universities and strong competition from guest schools," said CCF Chairman Peter Teeley. "And the millions of dollars raised for the Children's Charities Foundation through the Classic is a testimony to the fans' enjoyment of this special gathering of schools."
The lineup of games includes George Washington vs. University of Maryland at 7:30 p.m., preceded by Virginia Tech vs. Navy at 5 p.m. Both games will be shown live as part of ESPN Game Plan and on the Mid Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). MASN is the official cable network of the BB&T Classic.

The Classic continues to be the major source of fundraising for The Children's Charities Foundation (CCF). Founded in 1994 by a group of Washington-area business and professional leaders, the CCF has distributed nearly $7.5 million to charities in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, including the District of Columbia; Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland; Fairfax and Arlington Counties in Virginia; and the City of Alexandria, Virginia.
The BB&T Classic weekend also includes "The BasketBall," a black-tie event attended by representatives of the Classic teams and their coaches, top sports figures, business, community and national political leaders.
