Increasing economic globalization, climate change, ease of international air travel, and border crossings many other factors are focusing increased attention on the vulnerability of the world economy and populations to the threat of rapidly developing diseases. Protecting public health is the most fundamental component of economic, national, and global security.

The PHS Commissioned Corps serves as the Nation’s frontline defense for public health security and traces its origins to 1789. Its precursor, the Marine Hospital Service was founded to protect the economy of a young Nation dependent for survival on maritime commerce and threatened by imported ship borne disease.

Since 1889, the PHS Commissioned Corps has been one of the Nation’s seven uniformed services in recognition of the importance of their role in national security. The PHS Commissioned Officers Foundation is a non-profit, 501c(3) tax entity whose purpose is to advocate for and educate about improved public health awareness. The Foundation’s Emerging Leaders Program supports a variety of educational opportunities for future public health leaders.

Seating is limited and reservations are required. For additional information and reservations, visit the online registration site at http://www.phscof.org/anchorcaduceus.html, or contact Jerry Farrell or Brian McSheffrey at 301-731-9080. Email bmcsheffrey @ coausphs.org.
