Calista Technologies to Deliver Zero-Touch Access to Windows VistaTM

Beta release of Calista Virtual DesktopTM marks entry of venture-funded startup into desktop virtualization market.

Whether you are an IT manager looking for seamless migration to Windows Vista, a software developer requiring on-demand access to the latest Windows platform, or a designer needing occasional access to advanced 3D graphics, Calista Virtual Desktop is likely the closest to a zero-touch solution to accomplish your goals without disrupting your users’ productivity

San Jose, CA -- Calista Technologies , a technology startup entering the burgeoning desktop virtualization market, announced today that its first product Calista Virtual DesktopTM, a software solution which enables businesses to deliver a media-rich Windows Vista user experience to an unmodified thin client or PC, has been made available to select partners and customers for beta testing. In a separate announcement today, Calista Technologies announced its formation and funding from two top tier Silicon Valley venture capitalist firms.

When deployed over regular LAN/MAN networks, Calista Virtual Desktop remotes the full Windows® AeroTM desktop, a premium feature of all Windows Vista business editions, and provides a near local-like user experience of any graphics-intensive application such as streaming video, Flash and 3D content. As the product has been designed to work independently from the hardware or software capabilities of the remote client, requiring only a standard RDP 5.x connection, it helps customers preserve prior investments into their existing client infrastructure and reduce the potential for upgrade-related downtime.

“Whether you are an IT manager looking for seamless migration to Windows Vista, a software developer requiring on-demand access to the latest Windows platform, or a designer needing occasional access to advanced 3D graphics, Calista Virtual Desktop is likely the closest to a zero-touch solution to accomplish your goals without disrupting your users’ productivity”, explains Neal Margulis, founder and CEO of Calista Technologies.

The new Windows Aero desktop offers a much improved user experience with sophisticated graphical effects and visual navigation, however it requires a level of hardware resources that most of today’s installed PC’s and thin clients don’t meet. Calista Virtual Desktop represents an alternative to costly hardware upgrades as the software, which installs on a Windows Vista host, enables access from any existing fat or thin client without requiring a Windows Aero-capable GPU on the client.

General availability of the product, which has been designed for businesses, universities and government, is slated for the second quarter of 2007.
