Americans pay the highest prices in the world for brand name prescription drugs

As to why prescription drugs are cheaper in Canada and other countries, he states, “America is the one of the only developed nations which does not have price controls on patented medicines even though the U.S Government gives the drug makers a patent – which is like a government granted monopoly – to exclusively make and sell the drugs.” He also notes that the amount of publicly funded research and development to produce many of these drugs is significant. “One really has to wonder whether it is fair to let drug makers benefit from public funds and tax payer supported monopolies and then have them charge exorbitant prices to the very citizens who are paying the bills to prop up the system the drug makers benefit from.” Until the issue is addressed domestically, he believes that Canadian drugs and international drugs from reputable and accredited Canadian online pharmacies can provide a solution.
