John D. Abad, M.D., a board-certified surgeon and fellowship-trained surgical oncologist, has joined Cancer Care Partners in Mishawaka, Ind. and IU Health Goshen Center for Cancer Care in Goshen, Ind. Using the latest advancements in surgery, Dr. Abad will provide patients at both cancer centers with the most comprehensive cancer care available. His specific areas of clinical interest are in the multidisciplinary care of gastrointestinal malignancies, especially liver, biliary, and pancreas cancers.

Dr. Abad completed his Bachelor of Science in biochemistry at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind. and received his Doctor of Medicine from Northwestern University, Chicago, Ill. While at Northwestern, he received several awards and grants including the National Cancer Institute Research Fellowship Award and the Northwestern University Medical Research Grant. Dr. Abad completed his residency in general surgery at Indiana University School of Medicine in Indianapolis, Ind. where he received multiple resident teaching awards. He completed two surgical oncology fellowships at the National Cancer Institute in Bethesda, Md. and at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Dr. Abad is committed to excellence in his field through his continued involvement in cancer research, especially in the area of gene therapy to target tumors. He has authored numerous publications and given many presentations on this topic, among others. He also holds professional memberships with the Society of Surgical Oncology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, American College of Surgeons, Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society, and the Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract.
