McKeesport, PA (PRWEB) February 07, 2012
Online candy retailer, CandyFavorites.com, is proud to offer a new, limited edition candy bar gift set honoring the Tuskegee Airmen from World War II, as featured in the new film Red Tails. Each candy bar was hand-made by local chocolatier, Dorothy’s Candies, to honor the heroism demonstrated by each Tuskegee Airman. The limited edition candy bars each consist of five gold-foil-wrapped, hand-made 2-ounce milk chocolate bars.
Seventy of the airmen came from Western Pennsylvania where McKeesport Candy Co., the wholesale candy division of Candy Favorites has been since 1927 making them one of the oldest wholesale candy companies in the nation.
As part of the offering, CandyFavorites.com will donate part of the proceeds from each sale to the Daniel B. Matthews Historical Society of Sewickley. The historical society was founded in 1967 to create a permanent memorial to all of the pilots who came from Western Pennsylvania. Portrayed with honor in the film Red Tails, the Tuskegee Airmen were also awarded the Congressional Gold Medal in 2007. The candy gift set pays tribute to these brave and successful pilots from the Second World War.
Jon H. Prince, President of CandyFavorites.com, said, "The story of the Tuskegee Airmen is interwoven with the history of the Second World War and Western Pennsylvania. We are proud to help raise funds for the memorial honoring the seventy brave pilots who hailed from our hometown."
The limited edition candy bar gift set honoring the Tuskegee Airman is only available at CandyFavorites.com, and will not be sold in retail stores. The release of the movie, Red Tails, makes it the perfect opportunity to promote the cause-related candy bar and the future memorial.
“The candy is delicious and the box is sure to become a collectible, but that pales in comparison to the recognition owed to these brave pilots who served their country to the fullest,” added Prince.
Tom Griffin, CandyFavorites.com General Manager, also said, “Using the resources of CandyFavorites to help raise funds for this noble project is something we are proud to have the opportunity to do."
The Tuskegee Gold Candy Bars are available exclusively on the CandyFavorites.com website and will be available for a limited time only making them both candy and a collectible.
The company specializes in selling many different types of candy, including holiday and other themes, major brands such as Brach’s Candy and Jelly Belly Candy Company to name but a few and retro candy offered throughout the course of its 85 year history.
