ST. JOHN, Virgin Islands (PRWEB) August 18, 2015
Few people would be willing to leave the comforts of a good job and their homeland for a new experience on a strange island. Author Charlotte Fish Lacey is one of these few. She tells the story of leaving New England for a tropical island and the life-changing experiences she faced in her new book, “Only a Dot on the Map: St. John Remembered” (published by AuthorHouse)
This book tells the story of why Lacey left a comfortable suburban life to live and teach on a tropical island thousands of miles from family and friends. She took a year’s leave of absence from the Massachusetts school where she worked to taught to St. John. This year expanded to 25 years. Within “Only a Dot on the Map,” Lacey tells of the various experiences she had in her first years on the island.
An excerpt from “Only a Dot on the Map”:
“My mother explained my strange behavior as ‘change of life’. Whatever the underlying reason, it was a real change of life. After two February school vacations on St John, U.S. Virgin Islands at Cinnamon Bay campground, I sent a resume to the Virgin Islands Department of Education on St Thomas. I asked for an unpaid leave from my elementary school in Massachusetts and told my family I needed a year’s leave of absence to live on this tiny dot on the map.”
