Family Crisis Evokes Dark Secrets of the Past

“Chasing Cobwebs” is a modern family saga about the shattering of a woman’s romantic dream world. The traumatic events of her husband’s infidelity open the door to the history of her colorful Italian-American family, revealing long-held family secrets and the legacy of deceit passed on by their deceased Italian father.

Avon, CT (PRWEB) August 28, 2006 -- “Chasing Cobwebs” (ISBN 13: 9780595374526) is the dramatic saga of three generations of an Italian-American family coming to terms with long held secrets and patterns of deceit. When wealthy Milanese merchant Antonio Vecchi dies in the 1960’s, he leaves behind a legacy of deception that continues thirty years later in the United States.

Author Blanche F. Lord’s second novel, “Chasing Cobwebs” tells the story of Antonio’s daughter, Marianna Vecchi Marin, a beautiful self-absorbed woman who overly romanticizes her relationship with her philandering husband, Keith. She has disconnected from her two children, Matthew and Kaitlin. Matthew, an eighteen-year old high school senior has not yet told his parents that he has no intention of going to college. Sixteen-year old Kaitlin is showing troubling signs of morning sickness. When Keith, tired of her childish games leaves her after a twenty-year marriage, Marianna’s romantic fantasy is shattered.

“Chasing Cobwebs” takes readers from southern Italy post-WWII, to modern-time New York City. Marianna’s mother and sister come to Marianna’s aid and the Vecchi family’s dark secrets begin to unravel. The story reveals Marianna’s struggle to understand her past and begin to find her place in the real world. She must face her neglect of her children and find the stronger, independent woman in herself in order to become a better mother to her children. In the process of her recovery, each member of the family changes in some positive way.

Conflicting cultures between the generations, the deep complexity of family ties and the clash between a woman’s romantic dream life and reality, all play out in this psychological drama. “Chasing Cobwebs” is an engrossing novel with dynamic characters that leaves readers wondering what dark secrets lurking in their own past may be defining their family patterns and their perception of the world around them.

Blanche F. Lord, a native of Philadelphia, spent most of her adult life in Westchester County, New York. After her twenty year marriage ended in divorce leaving her to bring up two children as a single mother, she earned a Masters Degree in teaching English and worked as a journalist, columnist, and public relations writer. She is now retired, remarried and resides in Connecticut with her husband, Edward, who encourages her to pursue her dream of writing fiction. Her first novel, “Cloud of Chaos, Planet of Light,” is a highly regarded science-fiction thriller. “Chasing Cobwebs” (ISBN 13: 9780595374526) can be purchased at online bookstores and on demand in book stores.
