Pint-sized Pups Pumped to Win ‘America’s Fastest Chihuahua’ Title

Fifteen of the Nation’s Top Dogs to Face-off in San Diego Labor Day Weekend

San Diego (PRWEB) August 28, 2007 -- Hot racers will speed down the track at the third annual PETCO Unleashed races at PETCO Park on September 2, 2007, when fifteen regional Chihuahua champions race off for the title of America’s fastest.

In its inaugural year, PETCO’s search for the top Chihuahua racers proudly announced Chalupa of Chicago as the national finals winner; last year, Tiger of Bakersfield, Calif., took home the gold, and this year the two national champions and thirteen other speedy pups will race their tails off again vying for the coveted title during the Labor Day weekend finals.

The tiny racers will be brought together in front of thousands of roaring Chihuahua and baseball fans between the first and second inning of the San Diego Padres baseball game at PETCO Park. The fastest group of the world’s smallest breed of dog will be kicking up the grass in a blaze of glory.

As the nation’s largest Chihuahua race grows in popularity, it’s bringing some new dogs into the neighborhood. This year’s competition will showcase 15 regional winners, eight more than last year. This year’s contenders represent Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Orange County, Calif., Phoenix, Sacramento, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle and Washington D.C. Their pint-sized profiles are now available at www.petco.com/petcounleashed.

The Grand Prize winner will get bragging rights, a trophy, a one year supply of Royal Canin Chihuahua dog food and a $300 PETCO Gift Card. Prizes will also be awarded for First, Second and Third Place.

PETCO and race co-sponsor Royal Canin hold the event to celebrate one of America’s favorite breeds of dog, and to encourage all animal enthusiasts to consider adoption as a first option when adding a pet to their family.

“Chihuahuas might be the world’s smallest breed, but they sure have huge personalities and are very devoted to their owners, making them wonderful companions,” said Heather Olson, strategic partnerships and promotions manager at PETCO. “The PETCO Unleashed race isn’t just about which tiny racer wins the gold, but it’s also about connecting animal lovers with adoptable animals across the country that need loving homes.”
