When Billy and Jill Stirnkorb transferred to the Tampa/Clearwater FL area from Cincinnati in 2010, they knew they were leaving behind family and friends. But they didn’t realize all the Made ONLY in Cincinnati products they would also be missing. So when anyone was heading South for a visit, Billy made sure they packed their cars with Gleir’s Goetta, Montgomery Inn BBQ Sauce, Grippo’s Potato Chips and Queen City Metts, to name a few items they really “needed.”
Finding a Skyline Chili wasn’t that difficult, since John McClure IV partner of some Cincinnati natives has worked for Skyline Chili Clearwater for 17 years, learning the ins and outs of Ohio favorites through the years from loyal customers. After frequenting Skyline week after week, the two got their heads together and decided what they really needed was a “made ONLY in Cincy” food and specialty shop. It would be a “one-stop-shop” for all things Cincinnati, plus a few extra convenience items as well. Hoping to capitalize on the walk-in traffic from Skyline, they had no idea the excitement the store would generate.
Their soft opening was a huge success, with customers waiting in the parking lot for the doors to open. They sold out of many items on the first day, causing some people to be disappointed that their favorite foods were already gone.
“We had no idea what would be the most popular items,” said partner and general manager of the store, Billy Stirnkorb. “We stocked the items that people have told us they wanted, and hoped for the best. With so many people coming in every day, it’s exciting to see what they want. We have a list of things we never thought of when we planned our inventory.”
With more than 100 specialty items, the list continues to grow daily. People call the store after they leave, wondering if Cincy’s Finest Market can add another food or drink to their selection.
Some of the items they will have soon include some of Cincinnati’s finest brews, Ice Creams, and a full variety of meats, and a wider selection of their already-popular items.
They have planned their Grand Opening for Saturday, March 2, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. which will be complete with outside events, a classic Midwestern game competition called Cornhole, Ohio Gear contest, lots of good food to buy and eat, and events for all ages to enjoy. They are currently inviting readers on Facebook to submit their favorite Cincinnati photo and promise to pick the winner on Grand Opening day.
Cincy’s Finest Market is located on US19 North in Clearwater, which is a short distance to Tampa, Palm Harbor, Dade City, Winter Haven, not that distance seems to be a deciding factor on a visit to the shop. According to Fort Pierce, Florida resident Diana Sheubrooks, “when you need a Graeter’s Ice Cream, three hours is not too long of a drive!”
