Traditionally if customers want to experiment with a few different choices from an online retailer, they have to pay full price before trying the merchandise firsthand. If they decided that they wanted to make returns, they would have to wait for their return to be processed before receiving the refund. Meanwhile those customers who prefer either to pay by cheque or money order have to wait for their payment to arrive at the retailers before their order was shipped, sometimes delaying shipping by weeks.

With Invoice Me Later, customers can order the contact lenses and/or eyeglasses they want either online, by phone or fax. An invoice is included with the order, and customers have two weeks to pay for the merchandise by credit card, cheque, PayPal or money order.

Unlike similar payment systems, IML does not qualify through a credit check. Bill Me Later (BML), another popular payment system uses a credit check as a qualifier before allowing the customer to use BML as a payment method.
